چکیده

The correction of non-common path aberrations (NCPAs) between the imaging and wavefront sensing channel in a confocal scanning adaptive optics ophthalmoscope is demonstrated. NCPA correction is achieved by maximizing an image sharpness metric while the confocal detection aperture is temporarily removed, effectively minimizing the monochromatic aberrations in the illumination path of the imaging channel. Comparison of NCPA estimated using zonal and modal orthogonal wavefront corrector bases provided wavefronts that differ by ~λ/20 in root-mean-squared (~λ/30 standard deviation). Sequential insertion of a cylindrical lens in the illumination and light collection paths of the imaging channel was used to compare image resolution after changing the wavefront correction to maximize image sharpness and intensity metrics. Finally, the NCPA correction was incorporated into the closed-loop adaptive optics control by biasing the wavefront sensor signals without reducing its bandwidth.

Dual-thread parallel control strategy for ophthalmic adaptive optics.

To improve ophthalmic adaptive optics speed and compensate for ocular wavefront aberration of high temporal frequency, the adaptive optics wavefront correction has been implemented with a control scheme including 2 parallel threads; one is dedicated to wavefront detection and the other conducts wavefront reconstruction and compensation. With a custom Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor that measure...

Dynamic visual stimulus presentation in an adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope.

PURPOSE To demonstrate the technology and application of synchronized laser modulation in the adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AOSLO), which makes it possible to deliver adaptive optics (AO) corrected stimuli to the retina of a living eye and to record the precise retinal location where the stimulus has landed. METHODS The modification involves the development of custom software...

MEMS-based adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy.

We have developed a compact, robust adaptive optics (AO) scanning laser ophthalmoscope using a microelectromechanical (MEMS) deformable mirror (DM). Facilitated with a Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor, the MEMS-DM-based AO operates a closed-loop modal wave aberration correction for the human eye and reduces wave aberrations in most eyes to below 0.1 microm rms. Lateral resolution is enhanced, an...

Eye-tracking technology for real-time monitoring of transverse chromatic aberration.

Objective measurements of transverse chromatic aberration (TCA) between two or more wavelengths with an adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) are very accurate, but frequent measurements are impractical in many experimental settings. Here, we demonstrate a pupil tracker that can accurately measure relative changes in TCA that are caused by small shifts in the pupil relative to t...

Large-field-of-view, modular, stabilized, adaptive-optics-based scanning laser ophthalmoscope.

We describe the design and performance of an adaptive optics retinal imager that is optimized for use during dynamic correction for eye movements. The system incorporates a retinal tracker and stabilizer, a wide-field line scan scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO), and a high-resolution microelectromechanical-systems-based adaptive optics SLO. The detection system incorporates selection and posi...
